This version is way too old to cope with W/XP Dottie.
Is there any way to reformat your computer back to W/98??
Since you bought the hardware to cope with the dongle, '98 should work
again for you.

>>> Any idea what new software would cost?

$1000's. And they just keep changing it so they make you spend more
:-(
Did you read Foxymoron's tip about visiting
alt.binaries.crafts.pictures for the Hus3D?
It was posted on the 30th of May.
Or am I not allowed say that in this group?? Sowwy for anything out of
place but I am not going to sit on my hands when you could have
software that works (for nix) and you won't need your dongle. You may
need one of the driver upgrades from Hus's site, but that is all.

VIP drivers won't help with the Version 5 system. Husqvarna made sure
they wouldn't. They dumped all system 5 drivers off the Help Section
when VIP went "live and dangerous!".
Version 5 was to VIP like DOS was to Windows - as different as
Husqvarna could make it. The only thing the same was they could both
write to floppies.
I sat in a VIP sales pitch class and watched a woman burst into tears
because she couldn't afford the new software either. It was not very
nice to watch the salespeople move on to the rich folk when they knew
they wouldn't get money out of her.
Husqvarna wanted to force ppl into having to change over. They will
probably only keep the VIP drivers online a little longer. Eventually
VIP won't work on an operating system either. It works fine on XP (for
me), but others have had trouble with drivers.

mean about
munge) on the computer and the site to check on dongle drivers.

Munge means "make it wrong" if you like. Put a false email address in
where it says put email address. Being truthful on the internet about
your real email is a bit dangerous.
I wouldn't even use anything close to my real email address. Hence the
weird Pixie@AnnWheatley.com thing.
Eg Dots@dashes.invalid

> We have
done this to no avail. Viking no longer offers technical support for
Designer I 5.0. My system is not a VIP, it is just Designer I. VIP
came
out just after I bought my machine.

Having System 5 or VIP has nothing to do with your D1 :-)
They rolled out VIP to "complement" the D1. It's taken them a lot of
years to top the D1 with the replacement SE (Super Expensive!!). If
they think I have $10k handy for a hobby item....then they have rocks
in their heads!

You could have Hus3D (and still use your D1) and the only difference
will be that you will have to use the same colours that you used in
System 5. D1's that haven't been upgraded to USB status (that's the
'physical' machine upgrade) can't read the 100's of colours available
in Hus3D (or VIP for that matter). That is all. You would still have
the same colour choices as in System 5.

> Here's the latest and probably the last. The printer would not
work (even
with the dongle removed) and they said the SSD5411 dongle driver was
unsigned and not compatible with Microsoft. I took out the dongle
driver,
removed the Husq program and reformatted the computer using the W/XP
CD.
The installation came to a point where it said the parallel port was
not
supported by Microsoft, so I took it out, finished the installation
and am
back to square 1.

Yup. WinXP has no idea what you want it to do. It would take a program
"tweaking" that I haven't ever seen posted.
Have you got your Win98 disks??
Since you are brave enough to format XP, then '98 should be a snap
:-))
It might "see" the parallel port. (I'm not good with the hardware side
of a computer, sowwy). I let my husband play with the electrical
stuff!

> I'm totally burned out from all of this and will forget about it
for a
while.

Noooooo!! Don't give up on me now!! :-)
Give yourself a week off, but don't give up totally.
It's not you, it's the computer operating system that is too new, and
the System 5 is just a little too "mature"... how's that?!! :-))

Go look at alt.binaries.crafts.pictures and see if your provider can
pull headers back to May when the Hus3D was there.

Dottie, if you read this, the person that signed this is the reason
why you should not put your real email anywhere on the 'net.

This person is not the real rH, who is a damn sight more helpful to
sewing groups than this retard. He just forgot to take his medication
today.

Please do not let it put you off posting here.

As for the post from:
Path: xxxxxxxxxxxt!news.glorb.com!aioe.org!not-for-mail
??????
Three factors.
1. I do not have an active aioe account
(I do hold favour with that Admin)
2. I use distinct headers to identify posts from this console.
3. I do not use my rH persona in this NG [and] providing
the tosser (using it here) does not Xpost to the Sister NG (ABCP)
I have no problem with the use of RH by such a minor wanker.

certainty all of the above is well beyond the comprehension of

errrm..the topic (dongle-usb-port-parrallel) has been covered
many times before.
Folks that have to keep up with the latest and greatest are
always going to have these problems. Somehow it is convenient for
them to forget the Shuttle still runs (in the main) on
Win98SE/NT3.

..if it Helps.
As that Group largely follow MS initiatives I cannot see why it
is they are not posting these questions to MS Newsgroups.
Not only will they get the best of advice (for them) but their
questions will let MS know there are people out there that
require more than.....Ms. Festa !

That's a little rough!
It's not "convenient" to forget the old operating systems. It's just a
shock when you are forced to buy Vista and it's CRAP!!
Dottie has software dating back to 2000 .... I still have my Version 5
disks (and they are floppies), and the VIP. It doesn't sound like she
has had to have the "latest and greatest" for a long time.
Yeah... I knoowwww..... if we wanna use the old stuff we have to know
what it works on and how long the shelf life is ......../sigh.....
It's just that a Model T Ford is still driveable, nobody has come up
with a better mouse trap either....why just make computer people's
lives miserable by changing the format so radically?!
Software now has a use by date that hasn't become apparent until the
last few years.
It's just more ways to make you have to part with your money.

Your "buyer beware" (my Latin is rusty - caveat emptor?) warnings are
never more so relevant as now. Sewing software purchased for $1000's
of dollars has a computer life of how long now? Who knows until
Microslop decide to change the rules. And change them they will.

And you think Microslop Megadollars Corp are listening to the
plebs.....??
roflmao!!
Husqvarna went ballistic over the hasp conflict on version 3D with XP
- and there are STILL conflicts with 4D and Vista.
Microslop gave them the "bird".
