Sorry to be such a long response on this. I made a lot of name tags
for a quilt shop. Here is how I did them....just
suggestions....please use your own judgement.
I embroidered them on linen-like fabric (real cheap stuff) using a
heavy cut away stabilizer. I embroidered them all on the large piece
of fabric prior to cutting them apart....just measured out how much I
needed to leave between all the nametags for cutting. After cutting
them to size, I serged around the edges of each one. I suppose you
could hot glue a pin on the back....however, the quilt shop I did the
name tags for put them in the plastic nametag holders with the pins on
the back because they felt this would keep them clean for a longer
period of time. Some of the people put their tags on lanyards hanging
around their neck because they didn't want to pin into their clothes.
Hope this will give you some suggestions. Mine were very much like
making a patch except not satin stitched around the edge, but just
serged. This brings another method to mind.....you could use a patch
embroidery design and insert the names separately on it and it would
be satin stitched all around.
