Kifrsten you are not saying which reader you used to
find the messages, there is the first problem.
Using Easynews, as my Server, I see there are 7,000 messages available.
Really there needs to be more information with your post, say more.
here is a suggestion.
Remove the group from your reader.
Refresh the group list.
Subscribe to that group again.
Select "get all headers".
When that method does not give you the list of messages available try this.
Make a new post to alt.usenet.offline-reader.forte-agent
[Sample only]
----------------
Subject: Reading a Group
Body:
I am having trouble with Forte Agent accessing certain newsgroups.
I am certain my server carries these groups because I read them prior
to relocating my computer to my new city.
Please advise me on what it is I need to do to prove Forte Agent
is not broken.
I am using Version 2.0/32.652 (or whatever)
------------------
Make sure you can see your post list in the group.
Wait at least one day before getting any answer.
If you do not get any answers. Repost this.

Subject: re: Reading a Group

I am having trouble with Forte Agent accessing certain newsgroups.
Now I am not positive my posting for help is working.
Will someone please tell me my post is working.

someone will be watching for your post.

Okay, I will try that. I was using Comcast in the US. I am now trying
news.unina.it and teleportsv which are both free servers. I found the group.
I have refreshed it several times and subscribed again. I still get the
same 3 headers (from July, about Corvette designs). It is really
frustrating!

Your experience indicates those servers are not carrying
the design group.
Try other servers. Some of the paid servers have trial
subscriptions.
Money back [conditional] if you are not happy.

You can use such a facility to test all of your setup proving
the problem is server access and not your desktop.

Thanks for the help. I did as you said and got a response on a.u-o-f-e
saying i should try free.sonic-news.com. I did and all the headers showed
up! Unfortunately I can't access the files. I just get an error message.
Maybe not all servers are equipped to handle binary files?

That is true. My ISP had binaries when they carried USENET, but they've
dropped it all now. My new service doesn't have binaries. Looking
around at what's available, I haven't seen one free service that offers
binaries. My search is not exhaustive, but the trend seems to be not to
have them.
