After reading so many posts I am so confused.......

Goal: To take an image in Photoshop and to embroider it....

I have purchased the Brother 270d and would like to know what else I
need.

Thanks,
Paula

Well Paula,
I don't know that machine, but as far as I know, you cant just
transfer pictures in photoshop and turn them into embroidery designs
that work in machines. You have to digitize them yourself or have
someone do it for you. Digitizing is not just pressing a button and
converting to a design. Its like doing graphics designing with the
added task of adding thread information so your machine knows what to
do with it. I know it's probably a deception for you. When I started
working with the Embroidery machine where I work I thought the
digitizing software was going to convert any pictures to embroidery
designs with the push of a button... this is sadly not the case. So
you also need machine embroidery design software to complete the
task. After a few days of training and almost 2 years of self-
learning the software I've managed to make a digitizer out of myself.

Just look around on the internet, many people/companies offer
digitizing service, as do I.

Let me know if you need anything. Email me or check my website.

Hope this has helped you out.

Pictures have a format that describes the colour and density of every
dot. Embroidery files have a format that describes every colour,
density and motion/position of the needle. The conversion process is
a talent and the phot contains no sewing information.

I doubt Photoshop will assist you in this endevour. you need
digitization software. You need to load in the photo picure and redraw
the image in stitches over top.

Take a look at http://www.onlinerummaging.com/rumfiles/digitize.htm to
see if it doesn't help.

Hi Paula,
It sounds like you have just recently gotten your machine. I did some
research to get an idea of how your system works. The designs are in .pes
format, and some designs are built in.

To transfer new designs it looks like you need a gadget for downloading
embroidery designs (it appears to use a special card). Not sure if this
adapter (Brother PED-Basic) comes with the machine or if you have to
purchase it in addition (kind of spendy $124). http://tinyurl.com/2j5p6v

To create your own designs, you will need digitizing software. I found this
Ebay auction that appears to have the software and adapter:

Once you have the equipment you need, you will save your Photoshop image as
a .bmp, .jpg, .pcx, .wmf to import into the PE Design software.

That gives you kind of an overview of the process.
