Sounds like there might be a broken cam, then, if this is a mechanical machine.

Had it serviced a year or so ago and have hardly used it since. Everyone we
talk to says even though it is an old machine it is a very good one and
worth repairing. Not sure whether this is just a ruse to keep on handing out
more money ;-)
