Hi Shelly, I had this exact same problem in the beginning. You can`t use
tear away on knits. What works best is something sticky. I use lightweight
cut-away stabilizer and spray it with spray adhesive ( for machine
embroidery). Wait the 2 minutes or so it says to wait and then appy to the
back. If the knit is really thin, I use 2 layers. Works like a charm!

I do use tearaway, but very thin, so it almost tears away by itself. Even
more important, however, is using a stabiliser on top of the shirt. I use a
soluble stabiliser, and rinse off. The stabiliser on both sides keeps the
knit fabric from moving while stitching. If I can't rinse the whole
garment, I cut away as much as I can, and just rinse off the area stitched.
I have embroidered quite a few t-shirts lately, mostly with our town's name.

I also found, after ruining a couple of T-shirts, that
tear-away is no good for knits. I now use fusible cut-away
mesh under and Solvy or Ultra Solvy on top for knits. I
have had very good results.

as I told in other tread
It's a problem of traction of the woven. You must set up with the program
the under seam * and use a rigid base (like the woven used to make collar of
the shirts), and don't forget to set the traction compensation * on
program...

* You need it for large surfaces...
