I'm working on a present for a Chinese friend who is having a baby.
It is a red banner with chinese characters for prosperity, good
fortune and happiness in gold thread. It is supposed to have a
scrollwork border in varying shades of gold.

I had the bright idea of doing the border in overdyed/variegated
thread so I don't have to do all the colour changes. Unfortunately,
there aren't any shops near me that stock such threads and I'm not
comfortable buying overdyed floss based on what I can see on my
computer monitor.

I've e-mailed a couple of online stores, asking for advice but haven't
got any replies so I'm hoping some of the kind folks here can help.

Can anyone suggest an INS that will bother to reply to my e-mails?
Calling is not practical since I'm in Australia (unless anyone can
suggest an Australian store?)

Alternatively, can anyone answer my question directly? I'm using DMC
781, 3852 and 3821 for the characters. From squinting at my computer
screen it seems that the following Weeks Dye Works colours might be a
match
Tiger's Eye (1225)
Amber (1224)
Whiskey (2219)
Hazelnut (2237)

I'm very peeved about the INS's I've tried. I'm not happy with my
LNS. The service there is brusque and occasionally just plain rude
and the selection is limited. I'm all set to transfer my loyalty to
an INS, if I could just find a good one.

Thanks for any advice you can offer

DMC is making a floss called Color Variations that resembles an overdye.
Perhaps one of their colors would match nicely.

And if one of them works and it's at the store I work at, I'll mail them off
to you.

I have a LYS that would work with you. They don't have an internet
buying site, but they had this article about them and it includes
their email and other info. They are very helpful. Their Weeks Dye
Works thread is right there by their check out area, just a toss from
the puter and the phone...lol

Hi Barbara - I too am in Australia and find that the ladies at "the crewel
goblin" (Sydney) are just wonderful in helping me to match things up, and as
I am in Perth I may as well be in another country! I've emailed and called
this store and have only good things to say about my interactions. There
is another INS based in Perth which would appear to have a range of threads,
but I have never dealt with them, and the name escapes me at the moment.

Hope this help you.

Cheers

Joanne
