The stitching for the first wall for the patio/balcony scene from Stitch is
just about done. Next up is making irises. There are good instructions for
forming the flowers but nothing about how long the stems should be. I'm gonna
work backward and make a few flowers and then do the stems.

I've visited 3 of the 4 craft stores in the area looking for a piece of wood.
The closest I've come is whatevers in pot pourri but they're not 'perfect.' I'm
thinking of putting some wadding down and then covering it with stitches or
make a bundle of perle cotton or wool.

I'd much rather couch a piece of wood like the model but don't know were else
to look. There are a lot of twigs and branches right out side but they're damp
and buggy.

Help!!!

Did you check the home decorating section? Maybe something you would
make baskets from?

I bought a small wreath and took it apart thinking I could make a bundle of the
sticks. I didn't like the look and ended up using bunch of #5 perle cotton as
the base over which I did raised stem stitch with overdyed light brown mixture.

This project has been a real learning experience -- I wasn't able to do the
irises as explained because I'm totally inept working with stand alone
teeeeeeny pieces of ribbon and wire. I ended up doing ribbon loops attached to
the background instead.

Not a problem - use your microwave or your oven at a low setting to dry
and de-bug the wood. This was the suggestion in a needlework book I
read recently.

I thought about doing that but didn't find any pieces of wood that I liked
enough to take a chance on not killing whatever might be lurking.
