Hi, guys! Well, things have been incredibly busy here. Sorry I came
in and then dropped off the face of the earth!

It's been a whirlwind! Just a few days after I wrote to you I became
an instant SAH"M"! DH's 7 year old daughter was dropped off by her
Mom when Mom "left" her abusive BF. They came to our place at 2AM.
We called the police and Children's Aid got involved. Then Mom went
back to the abusive BF just 3 days later, but Children's Aid has
insisted that DD7 can only go to the BF's for supervised visits - and
Mom can't supervise because she allowed the BF to abuse DD!

So Mom and BF can't have SD without supervision for a minimum of 6
months, and who knows where it'll go from there. Thank goodness DH
and I were already trying to get custody of the child! We had an
inkling that some weird stuff was going on but it wasn't until
Children's Aid got involved that we REALLY found out how much we
didn't know!

Thank God you are available for her! I hope everything smoothes out
very quickly and that she settles in well.

A friend of mine is dealing with his x right now. They had an agreement
that gave him Weds nights, Sat nights, and he put his son on the bus
every morning. She unilaterally demanded more money and suspended all
of his visitation (told the boy not to speak to his father if he sees
him on the street) until he pays her more. He's gotten a lawyer (who
says he was already paying too much as it was) and is going to court,
but really misses his son meantime. It's not that he wouldn't have paid
more - he just doesn't have it. So now the lawyer gets a chunk.

The laws here say that visitation is *not* tied to child support, so
at least here the mother would not be allowed to suspend visitation
over child support.

Hope things go quickly for your friend! It can be a real hardship,
but emotionally and financially. We know that ourselves.

Hugs,

Teri

Oh, it's not tied to child support here either. But since they never
went to court, just agreed to things between themselves, she seems to
think that she can ask for what she wants and withhold visitation to get
it. Apparently she was shocked when she threatened him with court and
he said "that might be a good idea."

It's wrenching just watching him go through it. I can't imagine how I
would feel if it were happening to me.
