RCTN has a charter. I posted a link to it the other day. What Kathy
did was gather a consensus of opinion about advertising based on
thousands of posts and votes. Long before you arrived on the scene. I
was here just as RCTN split from RCT. It was agreed that we would allow
designers and stores to post about their freebies, new designs, new
fabrics, new threads, etc. That this was helpful to stitchers. That we
would encourage them to also join group discussions, which many of them
did. Kathy, at one time, had all of this on her website and people were
referred to it for clarification. Unfortunately, she has taken that
down. Yes, some designers were overbearing. But the way they were
treated was nasty and uncalled for. In usenet, it is so easy to filter
or skip posts. No need to get mean.

Charters are not enforceable unless the group is moderated.
Depending on how you read the various groups, if for instance you read
with google, it is not possible to filter anything.
Some may have been treated nastily, but then some were very
unattractive in the methods they used, thinking MLI, but I will remind
you again, don't imply I was, that is incorrect.

Since you seem to want the conversation and can't just let it go:
You intimated we didn't have a charter. You were wrong. We do. We
also had a consensus about posts. People pretty much stuck by it.
There were always those who didn't. That's human nature.
I understand you can't filter if you don't use a newsreader. Usenet was
not meant for Google. That's a stop-gap measure. You want access to
Usenet? Get a newsreader and access of some sort. Otherwise, you'll
fall prey to the pitfalls. Nothing in life is perfect.
It's not up to me to judge for an entire group whether some used
unattractive methods or not. My opinion is not the same as the next
guys. Are you trying to speak for the group because there is just a
handful left? You certainly don't speak for me.
I tend to give the benefit of the doubt. It was gently explained to me
about rss feeds and the misuse of usenet for profit. I can't help that.
It can't be stopped. Everything changes.

I went to this "forum" this morning. All it is is a set of links to other
usenet groups, along with many many advertisements--there is no "group"
there to field questions and help each other. Cranky as we can get
sometimes, at least we know there is a group of real people here.
