So, Li'l Guy went to the Baby Dr. this AM. I took him at 9:30AM and
dropped him off because they didn't have any open appt's. today and were
just going to work him in when they had time. The Dr. phoned me at
about 12:30 PM saying that he was doing well and his fecal test came
back negative as did his feline leukemia, etc. tests which is good for a
stray kitty.
Now, for the WEIRD part. That whole business with his neck being
devoid of fur and looking all swollen, etc. was NOT the result of an
attack or a run in with a vehicle, etc. The poor little kitty had a
wolf worm!!! I have never ever heard of this sort of creature and wish
I never had! Apparently the "parent" laid it's eggs or whatever on Li'l
Guys neck and it had hatched and just stayed put. The horrid thing had
burrowed into the kitty's neck and was feeding off of him -- YUCK is
just not strong enough!!!!! They removed the nasty thing and it was
about the size of the first two joints of my pinkie or the size of a
large grape when rolled up -- makes me shudder just to think about it.
So now Li'l Guy had been cleaned up and has no more weepy nasties
around his bald neck but he does have this huge hole on the side of his
neck which I have to put Neosporin on several times a day. It's about
as big around as a good sized pea which is big for a little kitty that
doesn't even weigh a full pound. He's just barely 15 oz. and the Dr.
thought he was more likely closer to 6 weeks old than 8 weeks!
Surprising how quickly a wild critter can grow up when out in the wild.
Now for the fun part. You will never guess WHO is being cat mom for
Li'l Guy?!?!? Not Bunny Sue who was a new mom this time last year. Not
Ivy Jane who is so shy and hides a lot. It's Cassie the Old Lady Baby
Cat! She has really taken to Li'l Guy and has not made one hiss or
growl or anything. Nothing like she was when I brought the other girls
home :-). I had Li'l Guy on my lap with Cassie's blankie earlier
tonight to give him some loves and some medicine and Cassie jumped up
and started to sniff him and just check him out. She had no problem
with him being on my lap and using HER blankie. She doesn't even allow
the other cats into the family room let alone be on Mom's lap or get
near HER blankie -- LOLOL!
Cassie likes to lounge in the bathtub and was in there when DH and I
came upstairs a little bit ago. We took Li'l Guy and put him in the tub
with her and she sniffed him all over and then started to clean his ears
and make sure his tush was clean, etc. He did the head butt thing
asking for a little love from her and she just sat down and started to
groom him. He decided he wanted to get feisty and reached up and
smacked her in the face and she just backed up a bit and let him be a
P.I.T.A. -- nor argument at all.
He spent the evening in the guest bathroom with his kitten chow and
the toys, etc. I didn't want him sneaking around the house and
snuggling down somewhere because I didn't want to have to look for him
to give him his antibiotics. Right now he's in the huge box next to our
bed again for this evening. I didn't have the heart to leave him alone
in the bathroom for the night. I want to make sure he can find the "big
cats" litter boxes in the laundry room before I turn him loose in the
house. This is a big two story house and I'm not sure he'll make it up
the stairs and to the laundry room in time if he needs to go potty --
LOLOL!
So, good news here on the home front. Now to get him all healed up

I think he has a very good home right now, and that Cassie wants to
keep him, too!

Thanks for a good start to the morning. I repeat, he's one lucky little
guy and I'm sure wherever he ends up and whoever it's with, he'll always
remember you with love.

First - poor little fellow - are there a lot of rabbits near where he was
found. Google tells me that wolf worms, a type of Bot fly, usually hosts in
rabbits.

Second - Cassie has given you a message, Little Guy IS home.

Not if DD continues in the same vein she has ben during our last few
conversations! It's starting to sound more and more like she wants the
kitty. She said the family has been discussing getting a kitty and here
I have one available. Especially one who will grow up to be the kind
that likes to sit on your lap. DD asked what Li'l Guy would be in
spanish and I said probably muchachito (little boy). She said that
would be a bit difficult to say and I said to shorten it to Chito.
Since She and Rachel and GrandMother LOVE Cheetos, this is likely to be
Li'l Guys new name :-). Cross your fingers that it works out that way
because I *really* do not want another cat.
I have given him free reign of the computer room and the guest
bathroom and he is in hog heaven. He's spent half the day playing or
eating or using the litter box. The other half has been spent laying on
me or biting my fingers or trying to get between me and the phone.
Basically just being an ordinary, healthy, kitten which pleases me
