For me, it's not that you're voicing your opinion. It's the subtext of
"I'm right, you're wrong, and there's no point in discussing it."
There's no sense in your statement that those of us who disagree with
you are welcome to our own opinions or acknowledgement that we may have
come to them through careful copsideration. That's what's irking to me.

Well, of course I think I am right an "you" (meaning people who
don't hold with my point of view on THIS topic) are wrong. If you
agreed with me, you wouldn't be thinking I was so inflexible. Your
posts -- as do most peoples posts -- dealing with a ***firmly held
opinion*** of a very controversial subject have the same sound to them.
I too have done a lot of considering before coming to my point of
view and have discussed it for years with DH's family, relatives and
friends who are hunters. I've heard 35 years worth of the arguments
hunters have to justify killing wild game animals. Unless people have
changed a *whole lot* recently there just aren't any arguments out there
that justify hunting and killing wild animals.
There are lots of other topics where I might not be so rigid but
this one deals with needlessly KILLING a **wild** creature who doesn't
have any real defense against an armed human. I used to think hunting
was OK for those who ate what they killed. I now feel that's a spurious
argument because there's really no dire *need* for that type of food.
It's just bowing to pressure from people who need a reason to justify
the unnecessary killing of a **wild** creature much, much "weaker" than
we are.
I still think that someone should develop a paint ball type of
projectile weapon to be used specifically when "hunting" wild animals.
No one wants to discuss the feasibility of that option -- probably
because it doesn't "push any buttons". A person would still have to
track the animal and have some skill using the weapon. The person would

Well, no. There aren't any arguments out there that justify it *to you*
and that's a whole different statement.

OK -- so I don't see the problem. The only marginally plausible
argument for hunting and killing wild animals is to have meat to eat. I
believe it has been shown that this is not a solid argument. I can't
help it if the pro-hunting folks can't come up with some additional
legitimate arguments. Telling me I am being unreasonable or stubborn or
foolish doesn't change that fact, it just means people have stooped to
the name calling level because they can't think of anything else to say
in support of their opinion!
I have yet to see anyone post saying they are in favour of hunting
because they enjoy the experience of legally killing another living
being. Face it, THAT is the real reptilian brain reason people hunt --
that feeling of god-like power and subtle omnipotence over another
living, breathing being. The desire for that feeling is there in all of
us -- some of us just choose not to approve of or participate in the
activities that are necessary to give that thrill of even momentarily
being an all-powerful being.
So -- you and I have had our say and I won't "argue" this aspect of
the subject any further. Neither of us will change the others opinion.
I think it's time to quit once the finger pointing and name calling
have started in lieu of solid logical points being made in support of an

I disagree. Your stating that it is not a solid argument does not make
it not a solid argument. Your stating that they could buy meat at the
supermarket does not put the money to do so in their wallets, does it?

Please show me where I have said that you are being unreasonable or
stubborn or foolish. Please show me where I have called you a name.
All I am saying is that stating something categorically instead of
clearly marking it as your opinion does not make it true.
