Hi Guys,
I just read a piece online at MSNBC about the pets that have been
abandoned. Lots of work is being done to find and rescue animals and to
help the already rescued. One thing I found very heartening is that
people in Red Cross Shelters are allowed to keep their 4 legged family
members with them. The people are responsible for the care of the
animal but I am sure that's no problem.
Also, most boarding facilities are offering free or reduced rate
boarding for displaced family pets. Texas hotels, etc. have waived the
weight or "no pet" rules and numerous businesses in the Gulf States are
offering all sorts of help in reuniting ALL the family members.
Personally, I FIRMLY believe that having their pets rejoin the family
will do more for the emotional well being of the family than just about

Lots of humane groups are able to take online donations - I donated to
the Houston Humane Society - took about two minutes - don't have the
exact link handy but just search for Houston Humane etc.

Besides the Humane Societies, here's one that was recommended by the
administrator of a very good Maltese group I belong to:

My heart bleeds for the man we saw on TV who was staying put (yesterday)
with his little dog who he`d held in his arms as he swam to safety. I do
hope they can keep them together.
