A dog knows the difference (at least it reacts very differently) to a
tape/radio or a nearby human voice, Cheryl.
Not so a parrot - my daughter leaves the radio on for her African Grey when
she`s at work and was puzzled to hear it suddenly making the noice of a
Police car siren. She realised that there had been some police programme on
the radio that day, when she checked the paper. LOL! They do seem to select
the most annoying noises - he also does the phone ringing.
