What's all this about then? When did you start weaving? When did you
get a loom? That plaid you are weaving does not look like novice work
to me!! When are you going to join us on rcty?

I took a class this spring -- you probably missed my post about it.
It was through the Parks & Recreation here in Magnoliaville. The
teacher has a MFA and is a great teacher. I also took a one day class
in dyeing silk scarves and had a great time doing that, too.
The most weaving I have ever done -- besides those pot holders done
with the stretchy loops -- was in my Fabric Design class over 30 years
ago. That was done on a 10" square made of 1X1 wood with nails every
1/4". Obviously, it was simply to learn how the different types of
weaves are done.
The loom belongs to the teacher -- she has SIX that she can schlep
to class!!! I did three or four 8" long pieces of different weaves --
plain, double, twill and something else I can't remember. Then I did
two pieces, each about 24" long that are plain weave and will end up
being heavy dish cloths.
I absolutely LOVED the classes -- a total of 8, 2 per week -- and
want to take it again this fall. The teacher (Jo is her name) said
skill level doesn't matter so if I sign up and there are folks with
absolutely no experience, it will be OK. Not meaning to pat myself on
the back but Jo was also of the opinion that my work didn't look like
novice level. We decided that it's due to all the different sorts of
hand work I have experience in, what with the quilting, needlework,
crochet, piano, guitar, etc. that I have done over the years. I have
ended up being one of those lucky people who is very good with my hands
and it shows in the weaving, I guess. Just don't look at the edges --

Good for you. I'm kind of ok at weaving, would be much better if I had
time to settle down to it for longer stretches, but I am most definitely
NOT a spinster. The spinning guru in our local Weavers and Spinners
Guild has tried to teach me with a drop spindle, and I simple cannot do
it. I joke that I am a Secondary Fiber Artist. I take fibers which
others have spun and/or woven, and turn them into something both useful
and beautiful. (I can never accept that a hank of handspun yarn is
"finished" I always ask "what is it going to BE?") OTOH, I have sent
each of my dgd s one of those potholder looms, just to get them started
while very young.

I would LOVE to find someone who could teach me to spin! I just
want to have a go at it to find out if I was able to get the fell of it
or not. I have no idea if I would be able to manage but I would sure
love to try.
As for those pot holder looms, I have on in my craft stash that I
will be taking to Lizard Land next month when I go to spend time at the
cabin. The SMDGD will be with me and I think she's old enough now to
have the manual dexterity to manage it. That will be one of the crafts
we work on when she is up there with MOI. I am SO looking forward to
spending time in the High Country and away from all the heat -- whether

it be here or in Phoenix!!! CiaoMeow >^;;^<
