Sigh. You are absolutely right, and I am an Anglican, but have been
worshipping with the Lutherans for a while (they did Reformation last week
AND sang For All the Saints this morning). If I tell you that the priest
of the parish I belong to was observing All Saints with an Evensong followed
by sherry and crackers (awful sherry, too--), since it is the parish's
patronal feast, and is not actually commemorating the faithful departed
until Wednesday night, you will understand why I want to drink that aquavit,
and why I have resorted to hanging with my Norwegian friends on Sunday
morning.

I haven't. 'Course, I'm not much for alcohol of any sort, except for
fruit daiquiris or this yummy mix from TGIFridays that I had *years*
ago that tasted like orange dreamsicles!

Well, we had a nice glass of 'Roxey's Rose' from a local county winery
(By Chadsey Cairns). We went out last weekend and did a tour of five
wineries (out of almost 20 in the county) and brought a case of
different wines home. This was one of them.
Hhe DH grilled pork chops, and I did smashed potatoes and pan-sauted
Brussels sprouts. - Yummmm

Narg, sounds fab. We had some really interesting wine when we went out for
my b-day about 10 days ago. It was "Itsas Mendi Bizkaiko Txakolina 2007"
- labelled as Basque on the menu. Link I just found here:
http://www.snooth.com/wine/itsas-mendi-bizkaiko-txakolina/
We splurged after the waiter told us the bartender said it was "different" -
and brought us a glass to try. We were in a fish restaurant (great seafood)
- and we're picky white wine drinkers. Hard to describe, a little pear, very
clean, crisp, but a little bit of lingering, very slight effervescence but
not as much as a chardonnay or riesling. It was fun. Evidently our "blind"
purchase was the really good vintage year. The restaurant had moved from
it's prior, smaller, location - and working out kinks. Which meant food
erratic - main dishes fabulous, sides for me cold. Also meant free desserts
and after dinner drinks. Very yummy martini-type drink made with espresso
vodka, godiva white chocolate, real chocolate, and who knows - needless to
say I wasn't driving.
Our neighborhood is sponsoring a wine country tour on a bus next weekend -
we're trying to see if we can do it. Sounds like fun and we almost never
make the time - though Donna & I have been threatening to have the guys do
that with us. This section of Virginia has a good amount of wineries -
maybe 40 or so. The "good" wine from here is Viognier, evidently the
weather is similar to the region of France where this is grown well, so...
Glad you had fun, and yumminess.

Now - where do I find a bottle! LOL
Every so often I splurge on a bottle of Gewurztraminer for when I'm making
Thai at home.
