Well... My New England Stitchers group (on yahoo) is doing a stitch along so
I found the fabric for that and pulled the threads. I'm got to do a few
calculations to double check I have enough. Decided it needed some sparkle
and pulled out some blending filament and will use a sparkly white instead
of plain old "blanc".

While the house was quiet, I got a few more rows of my "Bouquet for Cheryl"
done.

Than I watched a show on "pumpkin chunkin" and had my wine while DH bitched
about DS's teams lack luster performance. (he was not in net).

Drank the second glass while I check FB and here and did a few other things.

Hey, not OT now. What fun. Did you do something just for the workshop? Or
work on techniques, or a piece you already had done. I've got a couple of
finished tops that need to be put together and quilted. Thinking I'm going
to do a little practice as it's been a little while.

I've been working on my "Spring Morning" and finished a few flower petals.
It's just very precise I'm finding 'cause I want the couching to be just so
- if anything is off, I think it shows, so there I am using a laying tool
for these little over 2 threads & a metallic stitches. And a magnifier
'cause though I can see this count just fine without, it's hard to really
see holes being used which are most of the time under a metallic being
couched. But fun to do - not tedious at all. Someone at stitch-group on
Thursday asked me "how long is this going to take you to do" - my guess -
maybe 40 hours, maybe 60 hours. Who knows. Taking about 40 min a petal,
maybe a little less. The leaves only take about 15-20 min depending on the
sitch. But the big Or Nue' flower will take a few hours on it's own. And
then I have to design a support (trellis or something) for this floral spray
to appear to be hanging on. But, it's fun.

I've also picked back up on my "Welcome Spot Sampler" from Drawn Thread.
Which is about 60% done. And I could finish with just a few hours work,
after I remove the thread I didn't like, and the white framing the windows
that I decided I don't like. Ugh. And also playing with 2 original pieces.
Not quite finalized but they'll get there.

worked on technique. I learned a lot.
like you I do not need any little bags of things to carry about. They
are doing some wonderful things with machine quilting these days, it can
really enhance a quilt.
It can be tedious to be precise but pay off in the finished piece I find.
having more than one project on the go keeps one interested for me at
least.
what are you original designs themes??

Totally agree about the quilting. I quite like doing machine quilting, have
enough little gadgets to make it doable - sometimes it seems mesmerizing.
The woman I took my first machine quilting technique (not piecing) class
from is Lois Smith, who IIRC was the first person to win a grand prize at
the Houston International show with a machine quilted piece. She's a
fabulous woman, older and amazingly energetic - who includes a bunch of info
on custom dying in her book. She told us all about getting involved in that
- and how she was then buying huge bolts of white velvet to dye. Recently
we saw the Bernina frame that my machine could fit on (though it's not the
longer throat machine which they'd like you to buy/use). Very tempting - if
the big girl job comes thru I think that gadget will get a home
here....eventually.

WRT needlework, I've done a couple of geometric pieces that are really
exercises in texture/stitch effect using variegated thread and complementary
solids. Then for my Master Teacher submittal I actually did a "cute" design
- which I hope will be marketable - based on a latte and biscotti. The next
piece is a needlebook done as my breast cancer awareness piece - it's hearts
and crescents with some other stitches - it was hardest to fit the
geometries properly - and then figure a not too busy background. The couple
in the works right now are sort of abstract or impressionist takes from
landscapes. Essentially I'm doing series based upon landscapes, nature
scenes - a series based on Alaska, a series based on the Southwest. And
thinking of some architecture pieces. Been doodling with a combination
"chrysler building"/NY Beauty type quilt block design. The sketchbook is
getting a bit more full of late. But it takes time to turn my photos or
sketches to better drawings or paintings to then a stitchable/teachable
piece. I also have some painted designs that are in the works - mostly some
sports things & some Judaica. I feel like there will be an explosion this
winter - but I'm focusing on the glacier piece and a couple of smaller ones
for proposals to a couple of seminars/regionals.... We'll see.

Thanks for asking. What about you - quilting anything fab?
