If colo(u)rfastness is a concern, why not make a little doodle cloth
with the threads to see how they react?

Duh, that's a good idea! I know none of the other fibers will bleed
in water, but I never used these colors of Caron Watercolors before. I
will report when I do it. I'm going to Pennsylvania to see His
Holiness the Dalai Lama for a week.
