So thought I'd share a little Woodlawn news - and take some reflected happy
dance. Stitchers from 2 classes I taught won ribbons - woo hoo. And, I am
happy to say that of the multiple pieces put in, these were the ones which I
personally thought deserved the recognition. One of the stithcers got an
Honorable Mention last year - after she'd told me she was so disgusted with
not getting anything in prior years. This year, with her "Gayle" from Orna
Willis (a somewhat difficult piece) she got a 1st. Quite thrilled, and sent
me a great note about how doing the classes has helped her technique - so
I'm thrilled for her - she's a fabulous, fun person - and part of my hockey
crew (as well as a very busy attorney at DoJ).
More importantly, our own Donna got a 2nd for her elgantly gorgeous version
of Amethyst Dreams "in the Midnight Hour." So, I'm sure she'll share a bit
of news about that.
We're going to be demonstrating at Woodlawn the last 3 Mondays of March, and
I'll be able to bring my Amehtyst Dreams (Desert Twilight), as well as the
Gayle piece on stretchers, and some others for people to the actual workings
besides the finished ones on display.
Anyhow - I'm thrilled for them. Several other folks we know ribboned, and
of course so many have wonderful work on display - regardless of awards.
This is a show that doesn't have gratuitous awards - and sometimes, we
wonder at those given. But I know these pieces were beautifully stitched,
and deserved their rewards!

Thanks for the kudos - I think this is part of the reason that my choice was
to head for the Master Teacher program for certification, rather than Master
Craftsman - not that I won't head there eventually. But, for all of you -
it's pretty rewarding when I can see the improvement that students realize.
And especially when they appreciate it. For the most part - these canvas
classes have been really good fun for the participants and me!
For Donna, I have to say, that her piece as you've seen in the photos is
stunning.
We'll have fun doing demo days together - you can brag on your ribbon, and I
can have some reflected glory - tee hee. Last year, we actually spent time
taking the docents around, and explaining to them what the various pieces
were.

And if you get a job, I'll just sit there by my lonesome self
stitching. And counting out loud.

And if I don't find something soon, I'm come join you. I need a change of
view...and it won't include a hockey rink
