Well, seriously - I was looking at the reference stuff that I was given, and
sort of toying sketching. So, while I've some other things to finish up
quite immediately - I'm up for playing with a stocking idea. We can talk
off-line - give me some basic info like size you'd like, and special motifs
or if you'll just let me play and I'd like to think I can come up with
something special.
Got to run now - ANG meeting for the "other" NoVA chapter - and it's
crossing town in rush hour for me.

A Charles Rennie Mackintosh rose would be easy to work into a stocking
pattern. You could make it like a stained glass window and use intense
colours to make it 'pop'.
Or, an Egyptian-styled design of a lotus done in colours of lapis lazuli
and golden yellow.
Or, for an Art Nouveau design, you could get hold of one of the Mucha
ladies and incorporate her into a stocking. 'The Jewels' would be good,
because they're done in good, strong colours. 'The Seasons' are more
pastel if that's preferred.
If you do a google for art nouveau/art deco, lots and lots of pics come
up. If you add 'tiles' to the search, or 'stained glass' or 'colouring
pages', you tend to get more workable designs for embroidery.
One last idea: if you have a good art deco font, the word 'Noel' or
'Yule' or 'Christmas' could be rendered and worked in appropriate
colours for a stocking?
