Dyan, as suggested below, many find motzarella.org satisfactory. I
understand it's a free service.

I use http://news.individual.net/ It is not free . . . about $20/year
(the rates just went up last year. I find it worth the price. I do
notice, however, that not all the posts squeak through. So, I'm often
glad that people quote previous posts.

Thanks Dianne,

I use Google. Is there a reason that Google doesn't seem to be the
popular choice???

It's cumbersome to use. More than cumbersome! You need a reliable news
source such as the ones mentioned in this thread, and a newsreader. I
use Thunderbird as my email component and it also reads Usenet groups.

I will say that Usenet has changed dramatically. I used to belong to a
couple of political groups, but they are now quite rabid having been
taken over by those who shout the loudest and most.

Call me old fashioned, but nothing beats Usenet for networking. I build
forums for organizations and have one for myself. Not the same. Still
better than Yahoo Groups, which is the pits. I don't know how they've -
for so long - gotten away with such poor programming. Inexcusable. Yet
I have to be involved in a limited fashion because of commitments.
