Usually, I try to make quilts that either somewhat match the decor of
the intended recipient or are composed of the recipient's favorite
colors. However, I've got a black, red, and white top from one of
Terbear's swap, that is just stunning (everyone did a wonderful job),
and yet, I can't seem to move forward on the quilting because it doesn't
fit either of my criteria. I think I'm being too rigid in my ideas. I
need a new philosophy. Anyone else run into this?
Best regards,

Michelle, I've grown very selfish in my old age (really, that's my
excuse now--it's always really been about me:)) ANYHOW, usually I
make quilts for the sheer enjoyment of it, not much worrying if they
match either my or anyone else's decor. I enjoy the process much
more than the product, and love seeing the result, after it went in a
completely new direction than I originally 'planned'. Usually, about
half way through a project, i'm thinking of what I really want to do
next. IOW, in many cases if the top's done, it's a quilt!

Howdy!

I'm w/ you, Rusty. Only I don't consider it selfish. <g>
So many times someone sees one of my quilts and wants it for the
way it is, not because it "matches" something, but because it gives
them pleasure in the way it looks now.
I don't do "matching", not in home décor, clothing choices, quilts,
and often not in socks or earrings ("Sandy, your socks don't match!"

"Yes, they do! They match another pair just like them at home." <G>).
When I take commissions to do special orders, then I'll consider the
clients color choices.
The fabrics speak & determine the look of the Finished quilt, the wall

colors & furniture don't. ;->
R/Sandy- bought 2 old quilts in an antique shop in Pinckneyville, Illinois,
last week & they match everything, because everything goes together!

Hi Sandy,
You've expanded on Rusty's idea and added some practical applications.
I don't dress to match the furniture either. HA! Why should my quilts
have to match anything? I had a hunch my thinking on the subject was
dim-witted, but your examples illuminated how much so.
Thanks!

LOL! I *really* like the way you think. :-) I'm beginning to feel a
bit better already. I could grow into this way of looking at it.
Thanks!
