The next morning we drove up to Arroyo Grande, the Quilt Attic wasn't quite
opened so we walked along the main street and over the bridge taking in the
sites. Just as we were ready to leave she arrived to open the shop. She
has some neat samples in her window. One of a snowball quilt done with
curved lines instead of right angles. http://www.quiltspot.com/ She gave me
a copy of their upcoming November shop hop to reference.

Then up to San Luis Obispo where we bypassed Betty's Fabrics. In Pismo
Beach we stopped off at Quiltin Cousins, it is a lovely little shop with
some great fabrics. Close to the beach and some outlet shops.

In Morro Bay we stopped at the Cotton Ball. http://www.thecottonball.com/
This shop has quilting, home decorating, knitting and a sewing machine shop
all rolled into one. It has two floors to explore.

Nest stop was Cayucos and we discovered In Stitches. She has been open for
just one year. http://www.cayucosinstitches.com/ She has quilts with beach
themes hanging from her front porch. In her restroom she has her sale
fabrics with a cute toilet paper quilt hanging over the back of the toilet.
She also has signs requesting locals leave parking for the quilt shop!

We found a deli called The Little Market where they custom made a wonderful
sandwich for mom and I to share. They have some tables outside on the
sidewalk, breezy but very nice.

Our next stop north was at Back Porch Fabrics in Pacific Grove.
http://www.backporchfabrics.com/This is a shop that is wonderful! They have
very helpful staff and a wonderful selection of books, fabrics and patterns.
They keep you on file and I found out the last time I made a purchase there
was 1999. They made a suggestion of an art supply shop for some pencils I
need for an upcoming appliqué class.

While driving north we came across the small town of Moss Landing. Bells
started ringing in my head of a show I saw on the Food Network. It is
called Road Tested;
http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/show_rd/episode/0,2857,FOOD_26716_44999,00.html

Two brothers Jamie and Bobby Deen travel around and there was a restaurant
that had a fish market. Well I'm pleased to say I found it! Phil's Fish
Market and Eatery is the name. Mom and I each had a bowl of clam chowder,
she had the red and I tried the white. Delicious! We chatted with the
ladies ahead of us in line and the younger one commented you see everyone
here from the really rich to the really poor. Everyone enjoys Phil's. A
definite must try if you are in the area.
http://www.philsfishmarket.com/links.html We also had a steamed artichoke
and some garlic bread. There were some antique shops just down from the
restaurant, will have to check them out another time as there were closed.

We called it a night in Santa Cruz, not stopping at any local quilt shops.
The next morning we were back in the car and stopped in Half Moon Bay; where
we came upon their Saturday morning flower market. What wonderful bouquets
they had for sale! A lot were $3.00 a bunch. As they wouldn't travel back
to my home I took pictures instead. We also walked over to the Farmer's
Market and tasted some samples of different basil and tomatoes. It was a
lovely little driving break.

Next we drove through San Francisco and over the Golden Gate Bridge, a
little point of interest, if you travel north there is no toll! We stopped
off at the vista and took some pictures of the bridge and San Francisco.
The top of the bridge was in fog and as you panned your camera east the sun
came out. We could see Alcatraz in the east and as you looked west to the
city the Transamerica building could be seen in light fog and heavier as you
looked farther west. We were in partial sun while we took photos.

We headed farther up the 101 and at Santa Rosa the traffic came to a
complete stop. We headed over to Sebastopol to check out a quilt shop. I
think it was a private quilter who did work out of her home. Drove through
vineyards and orchards back to the 101. In Ukiah we stopped for a driving
break and then drove along the Redwood Highway. Be prepared for narrow
winding roads in parts. I tried to take some pictures with mom's camera as
we drove along to get a feel of the redwoods on either side.

Just as we got back to the coast the sun was setting; beautiful pinks with
lots of clouds that were backlit by the sun, a beautiful end of a driving
day. We ended the day in Eureka California.

Glad you are enjoying the travelogue. One more part to come. Didn't get
around to it today, maybe tomorrow night, depends on how tired I am after a
day of work after 3 weeks off.

Stay tuned,
Sandi

Another wonderful installment of your travelogue, Sandi. :) The above
little bit caught my attention, because Pismo Beach is the home of a
couple who breed cocker spaniels and whose current litter is the subject
of their 24/7 "puppycam" -- they're all so cute and adorable. <G>
