Well I would like to say I have been too busy quilting but unfortunately
that's not the case. Everything is fine, generally, but we have been in the
throes of selling my FIL's house and getting his estate settled. We did
take a trip to Cape Hatteras in May with my sweet stepkids and DH where I
did do some quilting but not as much as I would have liked. It was the
first trip without my FIL and it was rough on my hubby so we spent quite a
bit of time doing day trips instead of him doing lots of fishing. Shutting
down the beaches to the beach buggies didn't help either. But I did get one
quilt done and lots of beaded bracelets (my SD likes to bead, so we beaded
together). We also took a trip to Florida to see Mom, son, DIL and DGD!
Was partially a mom-maintenance trip where we did what was needed around
mom's house and then spent some quality time with the grand daughter.
Everyone went to Sea World and had a grand time. So that takes me to
mid-July. Then we had my DGS's fourth birthday to plan. We had fun, fun,
fun! He got a big fish tank which has thrilled him to no end. He loves to
just watch the fish swim around. He is fascinated with it! The wedding has
been scheduled for October 2009 but the couple are now living together and
it is working out wonderfully. They are making her house into "their" house
and it is so exciting to see. We've been doing lots with his parents who
are just the best. The last trip was to the Pocono's for a long weekend
where my DIL and DGD came to visit her folks. My son could not get enough
time off of work so unfortunately he was not there and was sorely missed.
But, my two grandchildren were able to spend some time together which was
priceless! With one in Florida and one in NJ, they don't get that
opportunity very often. She is almost 3 and he just turned 4 so this is the
perfect time for them. They were inseparable all weekend. I took tons of
pictures. The house is on a lake so there was lots of fishing, boating and
chasing frogs and turtles going on.

Now I am getting ready for a girls out weekend in early September. We
always have a theme so I am busy making pajamas for me with a matching
pillow case. I am also making matching pillowcases for the rest of the
girls as a treat.

My one downside has been an issue with my right eye. I came home from work
one day and thought I had a hair in my eye or hanging off my eye lash but I
couldn't grab it. Then when I took my glasses off, the "thread" moved when
I moved my eye! What the heck? So of course I googled my symptoms and
figured out I had what are called "floaters". I didn't like what I read so
I called the eye doctor the next day who was able to fit me in that day.
She confirmed that I did indeed have "floaters" - medical diagnosis is
"Posterior vitreous detachment or PVD". Other than being annoying (I keep
trying to find that damn hair), there is a chance that it could lead to a
detached retina which will result in loss of vision. Needless to say, I use
my eyes for everything! So, the initial exam did not show any detachment
right now but it can take some time after the initial floaters appear so I
have to wait for 3 weeks at which time I will have a follow-up exam (Sept
2). So, I try to rest my eyes when possible. There is no treatment for PVD
and I have been told that the "floaters" may eventually fade but right now I
just have to put up with them. No fun when your job is working on a
computer all day.

I am spending today making a quilt for a wedding in late September. I'm
using the "Warm Wishes" pattern. All my fabrics have been washed and
pressed and my quilter is all lined up so "all" I need to do is cut and sew
the top and backing. Hubby is fishing, QIs are sleeping. The planets are
aligned! Off I go!

Oh, I have been reading posts when possible. Happy dances have been done
(quietly since I'm not supposed to move my head too radically) and prayers
have been said when needed. I think of you all and hope all the Florida
folks are safe in the wake of Fay. I have 4 family members in the Ocala
area myself.

I will post pix when I get a chance.

Alice, it sounds as though things have really been "hopping" for you.
As to the floaters, I also have some in my right eye. Eye doc mentioned
them when I had my eyes checked last month, but wasn't concerned
overmuch about them. They can be a bit trouble some at times, but you
can get used to them. sigh.

Have fun,
Pati, in Phx

Yep, I have floaters, also, and keep a close eye on them. Like you,
Alice, I am on the computer most of the day at work, thankfully using
several different programs and software systems so the screen is
different between each one.

Yeah to getting some work done on a wedding quilt!

Have a peace-filled/piece-filled day,
Ginger in CA

Have had them in both eyes for years.
close your eyes and while closed make your eyes go in circles. Eye movement
will make them 'move outta sight'.
Another thing, when reading take frequent eye breaks. if you're looking 'up
close' look faraway--across the room--and the opposite if you're looking far
away-look down at your hands.

Me, too! My eye doctor said also that there's nothing that can be done
about them. I'll second the suggestion that when they "get in the way"
quickly look in another direction and they usually "float away"-- at least
for a while..
