I entered the word that I was in the midst of a project for Christmas
some weeks ago. It got no replies and I should by all rights take
that as dis-interest; however, the project of making embroidered Place
Mats with lace and braid trim became so interesting to me I decided to
mention the joy anyway. To date, I have finished 33 of the mates in
colors white, red and green. Some are trimmed with lace I found in my
mother's sewing kit (she died in 1980) some I found cotton trims at
JoAnns - sales bin, etc. Anyway, it has been great fun and you might
want to try some such idea youselves. I have a Janome machine and
disks for Christmas decor among other patterns. I have a brand new
Great Granddaughter about 4 months old and I made from scraps two Bibs
which I intend to stuff into her Christmas Stocking.

I've started sewing on a pink Christmas dresss for a neighbor's 15 month old
daughter. She has red hair like her mom, and this will be just right for
her. I haven started any Christmas sewing for myself. Bet your place mats
are really pretty. I have some green, bell shaped that work nice on my
small round table.

They sound like fun, and you got to use things of your mothers. Post
some pictures on your website so we can see them.

Congratulations on the 4 month old great granddaughter!

Thank you for posting this, Rhoda. It has given me an idea.
If I can find it [or still have it!] I can make a bib for my coming-
soon great niece, and use some bits from my mother's trimmings. It
would be fitting as my niece [the baby's mother] was my mother's
favorite grandchild. Our mother passed in 1996.

Have a peace-fille/piece-filled day,
Ginger in CA
