Hi. Things are being a bit upsetting here in the so called "Valley of
the Sun".... at least for us.
Some of you may remember that back in Oct. I was driving and got hit
from behind. Actually I was stopped and the guy that came up behind me
saw cars in front of me moving and didn't stop..
Fender bender it was. Because of heading to Houston and the infamous
car trouble that ended up with Jeanne and I spending 4 and a half days
in Midland, I didn't get the car into the body shop when I had it
scheduled. It is in there now. Has been for a couple of weeks. They
found more damage.... and the guy's insurance company is saying that the
car may be totaled.
Folks, I cannot afford a replacement car. This car has a newly replaced
engine, new battery (in preparation for the trip to Houston) and so on.
So if you all could send some heavy duty positive thinking for being
able to get my car back soon, and not having to pay out more money....

And it is not entirely off topic either. I need my car to get to
classes to teach and to "take" and to go fabric shopping. This whole
mess has also got me so upset I am not making any headway at all on
quilting and designing and writing up the designs I have already in the
works. Just don't feel like doing much besides hiding in a hole. <G of

Hope everyone is having a good time and doing lots.

Pati,

We had a similar run-in with our insurance company regarding the fact
they wanted to total the car. They go by an industry guide that does
not necessarily correlate to real-life values. The auto shop helped us
provide them with a better value of the car's condition prior to the
accident. We also researched similar vehicles for sale and the going
price. With that information in hand, we were able to prove that the
value of our car was greater than their "book value". This then lowered
the damage to value ratio and brought it below the threshold they use
to total a car.

You may need to provide them with all your recent repair receipts. This
is commonly done among our VW camper community when somebody's bus is
in an accident. Try it, you have nothing to lose and everything to
gain.

Coming out of lurk mode,
LizA.

I agree with Pati - look into this more. One of my co-workers hit a
deer with his 8-yr old Volvo, and the insurance company totalled it;
because it was 8 yrs old he was allowed to keep the car, so he used the
insurance money to fix the car & he even had some $$ left over. As long
as the car passes inspection, NYS will allow it to be registered even if
it was totalled in the past... the car is fixed and he's driving it.
