In the last few days I finished a couple of quilts. One is a baby quilt
for a Katrina baby. My cousin's daughter lived in New Orleans, and had a
baby just before Katrina hit. They got out a few days later with only
the things they had taken to the hospital, so I decided to make a quilt
for her baby. It was mostly stash stuff, left from the things I made for
my grandson's nursery 5 years ago.
The other is a quilt for my granddaughter. My mother enjoyed embroidery
and her favorite thing was making blocks for baby quilts. I think she
did at least 15-20 sets of 16 blocks and my sister and I made them into
quilts for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. The last set she
completed before her death was for my granddaughter. However, DGD is
almost 3, so I decided to do a bigger quilt for her. Someone on this
group had done a bluework-combined-with-patchwork quilt and I was
inspired by that. I designed my quilt in Quilt-Pro; I needed 17
embroidered blocks, so I had Mom make another one to go with the 16 I
already had. I used a lot of '30's reproduction prints in many colors,
for a bright, scrappy look. DGD will get this quilt for her "big-girl"
bed for her 3rd birthday this fall.
Pictures of both quilts are towards the bottom of

Wow, they're just beautiful, Julia! How wonderful to keep your mom's
memory, and her love of embroidery, alive in quilts for the family!!

Julia, your quilts are beautiful! I really like the way you set the
embroidered blocks into multicolored backgrounds -- *very* effective! :)
