I needed a little more support on the left of my SM table while hemming a
stack of receiving blankets. The fabric was sliding off and dragging the
blankets crooked. In a spurt of incredible brilliance, I put my June Tailor
quilter's square on the left of the SM table top. It stayed right where I
put it, extended the width of the table top more than enough and made the
hemming easy.
This bit of success makes me wonder: What if I had a larger 'extender'
for the table top for quilting? Something sturdy enough to support the
weight of a quilt? Hmmmmm. I could slip it beneath the SM to keep it in
place. If Miss Bernina isn't weighty enough perhaps a couple of bricks or
pile of lead pipes would hold something wider securely.
Please do not send me 25 cents and a free subscription to the National
Intruder for this tip. I just thought somebody might enjoy my little
discovery and could move it forward. Polly

No bricks or pipes needed. A smooth wood board propped one end on the
sewing table and the other end resting on a ladder backed chair back.
All those cross slats would allow you to choose the extension height
while the uprights help to keep the board from sliding off the side of
the chair. When not in use the board is thin enough to slip into most
any nearby nook or cranny.

An interesting idea, Debra. I don't have a ladder back chair but I see one
in my future. There's a big thrift shop sort of store in south Alabama.
We'll just have to see what's available. Polly

Hi Polly - spur of the moment good thinking! If you have an
adjustable height ironing board - that's a good thing to have at the
left side of your sewing table/desk. I saved my old ironing board for
this purpose which also serves as a day-bed/inspection post for two of
my cats who like to watch while I sew.

I would heaps rather try to put pajamas on a 2 year-old who doesn't want to
go to bed that fight my ironing board. I swear that thing has more feet
than a caterpillar when I try to wiggle it in and over and around and under.
I move it beside the SM table when I just must but am looking for something
easy. If I had a kitty who enjoyed an inspection post, that would be
different. Give yours a rub for me. Polly
