I use Orvus, bought at the local feed store years ago. Why the feed store?
I don't remember, maybe 4H kids use it on their animals? It's very gentle
stuff. I started using it to wash finished cross stitch projects. At that
time, it was highly recommended by local stitching shops. So, if it was
safe enough for cross stitch, I figured it's safe enough for quilts. I was
very optimistic about the quantity of stitching I would need to wash and
bought a gallon jug; of course you only need a tiny amount, so I have about
3/4 of the jug left.

Regular laundry detergent. (Unless it's silk.)

I use whatever I have. Whatever I have is always what's on sale that
I've
stocked up on. (don't have the product loyalty that my mom had. I
didn't
know there was anything but Tide till I grew up)

I only use a teeny bit and don't use the ones that have additives,
like
"color-safe bleach", if it's a new quilt I'm washing.
