Since we leave for Florida near the end of October, I have to get all my
gifts finished, wrapped and delivered before I leave!
I uploaded a couple of pictures of Justin's quilt to my Webshots 2009 album.
Justin in my newest great-nephew, born in the spring. The family tradition
has been to present a quilt for their first Christmas.
I was trying to come up with an idea, when I found a panel for an alphabet
cloth book. It didn't have an obvious front and back cover, so it was a
great choice to use as blocks! I made wide sashing between the blocks in
dark blue polka dot fabric, and used several gold fabrics to make friendship
stars at the intersections. DH and DS2 added their assistance in picking
out the border fabrics from my stash.
I did some SITD quilting between the blocks, some free motion to outline the
letters and objects in each as well. I did some doodling with paper and
pencil to find a design to quilt in the friendship stars, stitched with
variegated yellow thread.
Now onto more holiday projects!

WOW, it's darling and an heirloom in the making. I love the quilting
patterns you used...they fit the design so well. You did a beautiful
job and I know it will be cherished by the baby and his family. Donna

Inspiring, Susan. I don't think I've ever used polka dots and stripes
together but it is such a happy effect. A delightful quilt. Thank you.

That's a great baby quilt, Susan! Justin is a very lucky child. And I love
that outside border fabric.
