Is there a block named Minnesota Broken Dish, or MN covered dish or
something similar? I don't know what it looks like, but I could swear
I've heard of a block with MN and dish in the title. Anyone??

Nice block -sort of a Drunkard's Path effect without sewing curves.

There is a book called "Minnesota Hot Dish" from Atkinson Designs. It's
a very easy pattern, good for fat quarters or scraps. Here's one I made
<http://webpages.charter.net/jaccola/SkyBlueWaters.JPG>; I call it "Sky
Blue Waters", which is what the name Minnesota means in a native
American language. I came up with the color combination while lying on
my back outside, looking up at the sky through the trees.

I made another using fabric I had tie-dyed instead of a variety of
prints. Photos at <http://webpages.charter.net/jaccola/TieDyed.JPG> and
