I just got a package of assorted machine needles in my
mailbox. ($71.00 of needles is a small package!) Now
that I am covered in the needles department I need
thread advice. What is your favorite quilting thread
and why? Where do you buy Auriful online for a good
price?

Taria, I love Aurifil and just do a Google when I need more. I love it
for piecing (hand *or* machine) and for some machine quilting. My last
batch was ordered from Red Rock Threads, and it arrived so quickly I
almost hadn't finished clicking the Send button when it was in my
mailbox. However, my new favorite for machine quilting is the YLI 100
wt. silk thread. Wow! It's wonderful. It's so fine that it almost melts
into the fabric, which means it isn't for "in your face" quilting -- but
it's perfect for "subtle". Gorgeous stuff.

I've used Red Rock, too, and found them very good. For picing I like
either Aurifil or the fine YKI thread. For quilting I like the heavier
weight YLI. Have yet to try silk for quilting... I also like Empress
Mills 100% cotton for machine quilting: not as soft as the YLI, but very
good in the machine.
