http://www.flickr.com/photos/onetexsun/?saved=1 Here are photos of
the crazy quilt blocks I'm making. They'll be joined into a throw
sized quilt for my mom, who is the original pink and lace gal.
I still have several to make. And now that I see them on the screen, I
think they all need more "oomph" or something. More lace. More
stitches in gaudy colors. LOL.

Let me know what you think.

More lace? Just thought of another method for joining blocks:
Cut 1" strips, doesn't much matter what color, because they will be
hidden under the backing. Attach them just like a sashing, except to
the wrong sides of the crazy blocks. It will look like you did a
sashing on the reverse side. The edges of the blocks are now butted
together and securely connected. Find some lace wide enough to cover
the join and stitch down both sides. Would also work with fancy
braids, extra-wide rickrack, ribbon...

You need ribbon - green velvet, cranberry silk, blue satin. Gold and silver
thread for some snazzy stitching. Gold and silver threads are right
contrary but they will work okay if you're just doing a few inches. Maybe
just a few tiny pearls. Rosettes. Do you know how to gather one edge of
ribbon until it forms a flowery-looking circle. We can do 'oomph'. Polly

If you have variegated threads available - they are good for
embroidery on the seams. I see crazy blocks as a way to use up all
the oddball bobbin threads that have accumulated - the brighter the
colour - the better. If you have a good supply of bright threads,
rayons, metallics, cords, etc - I'd suggest taking several long
strands, twisting them and then couch them down in a meandering line
across your blocks - leave some ends loose like a tassel and use some
across multiple blocks after they have been sewn together. You could
also couch over various groups of thread along seam lines or use your
machine embroidery stitches over the strands of thread. Some of the
fancy new knitting yarns could also be used as a couching thread
(preshrink first by steaming it with your iron).
If your machine has multiple stitch patterns - they will give you a
lot of definition to your embellishment or try regular embroidery
thread wound in the bobbin and then stitch with the back of the block
facing up. jennellh
