I am trying to find a phone number for somebody who lives in Islington,
London, N11BL. Is there an online directory that I can use? I've tried
searching for "white pages, uk" and all the links seem to lead to nowhere.
Please contact me privately to keep the OT postings down ;o)
Thank you in advance,
Mickie

ah, we don't have white pages in the UK, we have yellow pages for
business numbers and the book for domestic numbers is published by BT,
the pages do happen to be white, but I've never heard it called anything
but "the phone book". Anyway, your online solution is simply BT.com, in
the lower right corner there is a graphic of a big book with the title
"The Phone Book" (it wasn't like that last time I saw a real one) and
click on residential numbers. It does do business as well, should you
ever need to find a business, but I think yell.com generally gives more
helpful answers.
Cheers

And don't forget that huge numbers of private phone lines are
ex-directory these days. Possibly more than are listed...

This person is probably among the unlisted phone numbers. I found her and
the people she is supposed to be living with (?) but no phone number was
listed.
Backgtound story: My mother's dear manfriend of 23 years (he is 88, too old
to be a "boy"friend, though they are romantically involved) has kept up an
annual written correspondence with a friend he met in England while serving
in WW2. He is now very ill and we would like to contact her by phone. We
have her address but think a phone call is more personal (and quicker) than
the post.

If you have a problem, Mickie, even with Anne's instructions, please
e-mail me and I'll find it for you.
When I was looking for some Canadian numbers recently, I Googled for
International Directory and found them very quickly indeed.
