I have long maintained that we are kinder to our animal family members
in letting them go before they have to suffer needlessly (emphasis on
the "needlessly", of course) than we are to our human family members.

My post concerning the free pups was more a joke than intent. Any way, the pups
only survived about five days. Not sure what the problem is. Very few pups or
kittens born here seem to survive. Something in the soil? Goats, sheep,
horses, poultry, rabbits do well, kittens and puppies don't.

Anyway, the mother and father of this litter are currently the only dogs present
that have not been made puppy proof. That will change in the next few months
before any more puppies can be bred. There are too many unwanted pets as it is,
no need to create more.

Could be a lot of things. Parvo may be the worst for puppies.
Distemper, Coccidia...
The local vets would know; they're usually keenly aware of what's
prevalent in their respective areas at any time.

Most likely distemper based on observation. All adult pets have had shots.
Puppies and kittens seem to die before old enough to give shots. I believe they
need be at least four weeks old, those that made it that far and I could give
the shots have survived happy and healthy. Part of the problem is location.
Part is neighbors who refuse to obey the lease laws and confine their animals
that receive no shots. This county does not have even a rabies shot
requirement.
