We are now officially into the "Holiday Season" and most of us who are
a little bit crafty will spend some time at least lying to ourselves
that we will make something special for Christmas from all those bits
and pieces of beautiful stuff in our sewing rooms.

We like doing something that links us to the past. We like feeling our
foremothers' smile over our shoulders.

So, I propose undertaking a new "craft" that requires almost no
supplies and will cost you only 42 cents (in the US anyway) for each
creation.

Let's start a letter writing craft. Let's go back to a simpler and
sweeter time when people put pen to paper and told somebody they loved
how they felt. It's easy, most of us already know how to write. It's
crafty -- buy pretty paper and a great pen. It's something people will
keep forever, maybe in a little bundle tied with pretty ribbon.

Letter writing is a forgotten art and is fast fading from existence.
Let's save it. What if every one of us writes just one letter and in
it puts a little piece of paper and a stamped, envelope for the
recipient to write to someone else. Think about it. Just a few women
brought quilting back from the edge of nowhere. This list is filled
with people who love to talk, love to put their thoughts and plans and
triumphs and sorrows into words. Why not on paper and share with ....
ok, each other? I'd love to get a letter from any of you. How about a
sibling or parent or old friend or new friend? How about somebody you
see all the time, but never sent a letter to before.

If you want, glue pretties to the paper. Make your own paper. Put in a
photo of your latest quilt, or glue little bits of the fabric to the
page so they can feel the stuff and love the gorgeous colors.

I am going to go write a letter or two or three. Let's do this. Let's
rescue a craft and art that deserves to live on for another
generation.

Sunny -- on my soapy box again. :)
