1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate?
Egg Nog -- I can get hot chocolate any time of the year but egg
nog is only available during the holidays.

2. Does Santa wrap presents or set under tree?
For kids, Santas gifts are under the tree and not wrapped.
For grownups and big kids, Santas gifts are wrapped and under the tree.

3. Colored lights on tree/house?
Colored on the fresh cut tree. White on both the artificial
white tree and the artificial green Garfield Cat tree. The outside has
both colored and white lights -- lots and lots of lights. The family
decorating motto is: IF it stand still, it gets decorated" :-)!

4. Hang mistletoe?
I have phony mistletoe attached to the Moose Mistletoe Holder
that hangs in the entry. I also usually buy some fresh from the Boy
Scouts who stand outside the grocery store selling it.

5. When do you put up decorations?
Outside light are put up Thanksgiving week (DH takes
vacation so he can do that) and they are turned on at 6:00 PM
Thanksgiving night as that is the official start of Christmas in my
family. Inside decorations are put up as soon as I get the Autumn
Village and other decorations taken down which is usually about Saturday
night (after T-day).

6. Favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)?
Nothing particular -- we never had any specifically
"Christmas Only" holiday foods that weren't dessert.

7. Favorite holiday memory as a child?
The family outing to pick out the Christmas Tree.

8. When did you learn the truth about Santa?
If this means that there isn't a Jolly little elf in a red
suit who delivers gifts on Christmas Eve, then I don't really remember
so it must not have been traumatic. There IS a Santa, and "he" is
whichever person goes to the trouble to sneak around and surprise
children with gifts they don't expect to get!

9. When do you open gifts?
DH was a Christmas Eve family and I was a Christmas morning
family. When DD was small, ot was Christmas Day, after she moved out on
her own, DH and I compromised and opened gifts AFTER midnight when it is
officially December 25th. As a child, we could open one gift on 24 Dec.
but had to wait for Christmas morning to open the rest.

10. How do you decorate your tree?
Many strings of colored lights that are the C7 type, not the
little ones that are a PITA! Lots of ornaments, unique store bought and
many hand-made, many of them kitty cats -- I even have 2 that were my on
my Mom's tree at the beginning of WW2. Then glass bead garland -- 4
strands of it also from my Mom's tree. Lastly the icicles, loads and
loads of icicles -- so much that you have to get up close and personal
to actually see the ornaments. And it's not just laid on the outside
but covers the length of the branches!

11. Snow! Love it or dread it?
LOVE it but growing up in LALA Land and then living in
Lizard Land (AKA Scottsdale, AZ) I never had any. Here in Magnoliaville
(AKA Atlanta Metro area), we get a few inches every few years.

12. Do you know how to ice skate?
Yep, learned at the nearby skating rink owned by the
Zamboni family, one of whom invented the famous Zamboni machine that
cleans the ice :-)!.

13. Your favorite gift?
It's usually something that someone had gotten me that is
totally unexpected -- doesn't happen often but when it does, it is NEVER
forgotten! Last year DH got me Tahitian Black Pearls, something I have
wanted ever since we vacationed in Tahiti but could never afford and
would NEVER ask for.

14. What's the most important thing about the holidays for you?
Being with my family and friends on Christmas. Next to
that it is shopping for special gifts for them and my friends. I don't
just buy something I think they will like. I *always* try to find
something specific that will really show the recipient that I have
thought about what I was giving.

15. Favorite holiday dessert?
Has to be my Date Torte Squares. I only make it at Christmas
and the stuff is addictive!

16. Favorite tradition?
I don't know if I have a specific one. The whole holiday
season is so filled with wonderful traditions that it's hard to choose!
It's probably still going to buy the Christmas tree.

17. What tops your tree?
An angel -- one with lights up her dress!!!!!!

18. What do you prefer, giving or getting?
OH -- giving by far. I love to open my own gifts to see
what someone has gotten me but I much prefer to see family and friends
open their gifts. Both are selfish for me, either I am getting a gift
or I am getting that "good feeling" from having a gift I gave make
someone else happy!

19. Favorite Christmas song?
I have several, both traditional and "contemporary". For
Traditional, it's probably O Little Town of Bethlehem & What Child Is
This. For "Contemporary" there are several: The Christmas Song by Nat
King Cole (even Mel Torme said Nat did the best rendition!); White
Christmas by Bing Crosby (who else???); Carol of the Bells by some group
who recorded in the 1960's (Robert Simeon Chorale or something like
that) and Sleigh Ride by Johnny Mathis.

20. Candy canes Yuck or yum
YUM! Peppermint is my all time favourite hard candy. I
LOVE the large peppermint sticks made by BOB'S and buy as many of them
as I can find. Then I have DH hide them from me and only give me one
when I specifically ask for it but never more than one a week!!
Unfortunately, I can't find them here in Magnoliaville so I have to try
and find them when we got to Lizard Land every year.

21 RUDOLPH THE RED NOSED REINDEER OR HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS
Assuming this means the movies, then neither actually!
Rudolph is that Clay-mation stuff which I don't like but it's by far
much better than the Grinch. I do NOT like the Grinch in any way shape
or form -- I'm not a big Dr. Suess fan.

22. Favorite Holiday Movie?
Miracle on 34th Street, of course!!! I like both the first
one made with Maureen O'Hara (or was it O'Sullivan??) as the Mom and
Natalie Wood as the little girl. I like the third one made (I *think*
there have only been 3 versions made) almost as well but can't remember
the name of anyone who played in it. It follows the first one almost to
the letter. The little girl is the one who has played in tons of movies
but the only one I can even remotely remember is the one where Danny
DeVito was her dad and he was horrible to her.

show/hide quoted text
We were at grandparents and my sister and I were
sleeping on the couch in the living room next to the tree so we
watched.
show/hide quoted text
Usually one on Christmas Eve and the rest the next
morning.
show/hide quoted text
Lights, then special ornaments, mostly one of a kind.
show/hide quoted text
Love to see it. Don't really want to go out in it.
show/hide quoted text
I tried it once or twice as a child. I didn't do well and
don't mind.
show/hide quoted text
Whatever I really want at that time. One year it was a
big quilting hoop. One year it was a new wedding ring set.
show/hide quoted text
Pecan pie, divinity.

What fun, Mary! Ok, my answers:

Champagne. Or a single malt whiskey if I'm really cold. Or sick.

1. Egg Nog or Hot Chocolate?
Egg Nog, can have hot chocolate any day of the week

2. Does Santa wrap presents or set under tree?
Santa either wraps them or puts them in gift bags, since I know the
real reason of Christmas and we have no babies
or toddlers or even children in my household, although I agree Santa
is in the heart.

3. Colored lights on tree/house?
Colored lights on trees and nothing outside this year at least

4. Hang mistletoe?
We use to when we could find it, my father is too old to go shoot it
out of a tree now.

5. When do you put up decorations?
I guess I am terrible but the truth is whenever the mood hits. Has
taken me two weeks to get my tree decorated this year.

6. Favorite holiday dish (excluding dessert)?
I can't think of any one thing, I would rather have a pot of pinto
beans with cornbread, butter, onion and homemade chow-chow, why
waste such a beautiful holiday in the kitchen?

7. Favorite holiday memory as a child?
The busyness, not sure that is a word, of town on Christmas eve. My
father was in business and we always had to stay at the store late on
Christmas eve while he delivered Santa to everyone else.

8. When did you learn the truth about Santa?
Well, I think that Santa is in our hearts but when I learned that he
didn't come down the chimney was in the 3rd grade because one of my
packages didn't
get in for Christmas and I was at the store when the mailman delivered
it.

9. When do you open gifts?
Being all three of us girls worked in the medical field and had to
work lots of Christmas' it was always when we were all could be here.
Now we opened them on Christmas morning as a child and we do now too
unless my one sister has to work and so far we have not encountered
that in
several years because she has the most seniority at her job.

10. How do you decorate your tree?
Everything, except for one ornament is Hallmark on my tree and
represents things that are important to me. But seems this year I only
could get to the box
with some miscellaneous stuff and Santa's so I have mostly Santa's
on my tree. Actually, had to send nephew after the boxes and that is
what he brought up.

11. Snow! Love it or dread it?
I love snow, in increments of about 4 inches, anything more than
that is too much and I hate it when it gets dirty from the coal trucks
driving by on the main highway.

12. Do you know how to ice skate?
Nope and too old to learn

13. Your favorite gift?
I don't think that I have a favorite gift but I definitely have two
un favorite , anything to clean house with and money

14. What's the most important thing about the holidays for you?
the fact that we celebrate Christ's birthday and family being together
and not fussing.

15. Favorite holiday dessert?
Being diabetic I consider Egg Nog a dessert and it is by all means
my favorite at Christmas time, un spiked please.

16. Favorite tradition?
Christmas Eve church service with communion

17. What tops your tree?
An Angel

18. What do you prefer, giving or getting?
I love to give, I don't care if I get anything but I enjoy giving so
much.

19. Favorite Christmas song?
Someone else has already said my favorite which is Mary did you
Know, but I have a second and third also,
Winter Wonder Land and It's Beginning to Look a Lot like Christmas

20. Candy canes
I can take them or leave them.

21 RUDOLPH THE RED NOSED REINDEER OR HOW THE GRINCH STOLE
CHRISTMAS
Don't pass out but I have never seen How the Grinch Stole
Christmas, he just never appealed to me, I love Rudolph but I always
cry during it because they are so mean to him, same with Frosty, I
cry when he melts.

22. Favorite Holiday Movie?
Miracle on 34th Street

Hot chocolate is best with a Peep floating in it. Therefore Egg Nog goes
best with Kissmoose. Egg Nog is really good mixed with Kahlua.

show/hide quoted text

Santa gives one present, unwrapped, under the tree, with a full stocking
if you are 21 and under. Otherwise, Santa ignores your requests.

show/hide quoted text

Bah humbug.

When I was in the mood, single color lights went in the house decorating
walls, and on the outside. I haven't had a tree for years. If I did, it
has to have a rootball and some place to plant in spring, and be covered
in dog/cat toys as it simplifies things.

show/hide quoted text

It's poisonous to pets, so no.

show/hide quoted text

Not until the week or so before kissmoose.

show/hide quoted text

Potatoes pirogie- half cheese, half sour cream, half hashed taters, half
very bad at math recipe- baked for a while.

And Fauxtatoes.

show/hide quoted text

the Garage Sale Kissmoose. Gram spent $2 at lots of different garage
sales for each grandkid- we had a LOT of things to open, wrapped in
newspaper. I got a few bronze horses and lots of other cool stuff.

show/hide quoted text

I don't know the truth about Santa. I know what I believe, and Faith is
above Truth in this matter.

show/hide quoted text

When I was young, Kissmoose eve was spent with Mom's relations and we
opened those presents then. Kissmoose morning was spent with Da's
relatives and we opened everything that morning- but not until everyone
had breakfast. Now... um, when I see people we trade off.

show/hide quoted text

No tree. I don't like artificial, and I don't like killing trees. And 4
cats and 2 dogs will knock it over, climb it, pee on it, steal the
ornaments, etc.

show/hide quoted text

I love snow when I don't have to shovel or drive. Unfortunately I never
get the luxury.

show/hide quoted text

Yes, but I'm not very good.

show/hide quoted text

Something really thoughtful. Usually what my sweetie gets.

show/hide quoted text

When it's over.

I am such a huge scrooge. I *hate* the traveling, the arguments, the
being ill for whatever tiny reason I get sick this time... But I do like
seeing my family and thinking hard about what to get for them.

show/hide quoted text

Chocolate Mousse.

show/hide quoted text

When we were little and sleeping in the guest room at Meme's- granpa
Burt used to go out in the back yard and use sleigh bells to remind us
to go to sleep. Most of my fav traditions are in the past.

show/hide quoted text

My parents have had angels, Santa, and stars.

show/hide quoted text

Giving is always better. And I hate it when I can't give enough.

show/hide quoted text

"A Christmas Carol" by Tom Lehrer. And "I'll be home for Christmas"

show/hide quoted text

Eh.

show/hide quoted text

How about Twas the Night Before Christmas?

show/hide quoted text

Nightmare Before Christmas.

Yeah, I got the spirit, all right.
