So, I had just returned from a half day meeting at work when someone looks
at me and says "What's wrong with your eye?". Not what you want to hear at
any time! When I looked in a mirror, I see what appears to be blood
pooling in the bottom part of my eye - but I'm not bleeding - it's under the
white part of my eye. Doesn't hurt, doesn't affect my vision. Also doesn't
look good!

I go to bed and wake up to my husband staring at my face saying "You look
terrible!" Not what I need to hear first thing in the morning. "I love you
too" I replied. But, he was right - I looked in the mirror and now my
entire eye is bright red! Now I'm getting nervous. Still doesn't hurt and
is not impacting my vision.

Time for Google. It appears I have "red eye" a.k.a "subconjunctival
hemmhorage". I call the doctor for an appointment. He confirms what google
said. Will last for 10-14 days and was probably caused by a hard sneeze or
lifting something heavy. I have started an exercise program which includes
weight training and lots of crunches. I have a suspicion that I "crunched"
a bit too hard the night before the half day meeting. My husband wanted to
know if this is more common with advanced age. His cast will come off next
week.

So, no lifting for a while and no aspirin or fish oil which are both blood
thinners. I should take some pictures of myself and see how the camera
handles a real "red eye"!

I had that once as a side-effect of glandular fever ("infectious
mononucleosis" in American). It made for a *very* short interview
with the lady in the benefits office when I was telling her I was
too ill to work. Having a reputation for the "evil eye" must feel
like that.

My mom had that once when I was a kid. The old folks called it a
"star" as in "she's got a star in her eye." No idea the origin of
that.
