There's also a very nice LQS, The Little Shop, in Haddonfield, NJ
which is just across the river from Phila. i n New Jersey. Depending
on where you're staying, readily accessible via public
transportation. I've only been there a couple of times but they have
a wonderful selection and the people there are incredibly helpful. To
the point, I had bought some fabric there and ended up cutting it
wrong and needing more. Went back to the shop and they were out but
one of the employees had bought a ton of it for her stash and she
mailed it out to me the next day. There really isn't anything quilt-
specific that I'm aware of in Phila. itself, but there is 'fabric row'
which is several city blocks of fabric shops specializing more in home
dec and specialty fabrics. Lots of trims as well. A couple of shops
do have some nice cottons but not enough to make a special trip for
just quilting fabrics. Let me know if you'd like some more info on
either and I'll be happy to send you what I know.

Are you going to Philadelphia city proper or will you be in the
outlying suburbs? Frequently people call the whole area Philadelphia.
I grew up in the city and concur with the writer who replied about
fabric row which is near South Street. It's great for dressmaking
fabric, drapery, upholstery and trim but not quilting cottons. If
however, you are going to be in the suburbs there are a couple of nice
places in Chester County and one place in King of Prussia and of
course a whole gaggle of places in the Lancaster area which is around
an hour and a half drive depending on where you will be coming from. I
don't have the list at my fingertips, but you can contact me directly
and I can compile one for you.

I might be able to help you out too....I live about 30 miles west of
Philadelphia...right near the PA turnpike. There are many fabric and quilt
shops in this area! They have great prices....just ask my husband.....I
"save" him money all the time!

Thank you Alice. Philly Quilter has sent a pdf on lqs's. We are going to
King of Prussia too! I will be staying with our DN and family in Ambler for
a week. Are you anywhere near there? I really want to buy threads as I do
mostly all my fabric buying from US anyhow, but there is probably a chance I
will be tempted! lol.

buy up lots early in the trip, Estelle.
so if you buy more than fits in the suitcase you have time to tack'em into
some sort of a cape to wear home. no extra luggage charges for the clothes
on your back.
also many small spools of thead fit into pockets of your jacket.
i carried a jacket crammed full of fabric by rolling up same coloured fabs
and pinning to the inside middle of collar and running the rolls down into
the sleeves.
then also wore the rest home in my kimono(of sorts) garment.
worked a treat.
do they let you also carry your own pillow?
now there you can layer many fabs and stuff with scrunched up other FQs or
smaller pieces of fabric.
neither the garment, the rolls in jacket or pillow need have any cutting
done, just fold into shape needed and big stitch with strong threads.
