Now that Alice has the directory complete, I've changed newsgroup readers.
I was using Google, but couldn't KF those who really need to be KF'd (you
all know who I mean). Since switching to Outlook Express to read
newsgroups, I've discovered I can use only one identity for all my
newsgroups (I also inhabit the diabetic newsgroup). So now my messages,
instead of coming through as Michelle in NV, will be coming through as just
Michelle. I don't really want my more specific identity, Michelle in NV,
listed on the diabetic newsgroup. There are truly a few whackos there
(amongst the mostly sane people). So I hope this doesn't mess anyone
up--especially the directory maker. I'll still be signing my messages the
same way, however.

Michelle, I try every so often to read the diabetic newsgroup myself,
posted there last night a couple of times, but there is so much
fussing and flaming in that group that I end up deleting it most of
the time. How do you manage that stuff? I would love to be able to
read it but just can't stand all that.

I went through that too, Jacqueline. I finally had to give it up, because I
would get myself all worked up trying to figure out why there was so much
anger in so many people! I also tried the low-carb newsgroup, but it was
even worse!
RCTQ is so wonderful. Our flame wars are usually short and more civil than
most others I've seen and they don't happen nearly as often. When things
start getting out of hand, I just block 'em!

Hi Jacqueline,
Not sure, but I think maybe I've read some of your posts on ASD--at least
I've read some posts from a Jacqueline. :-) I found your comments to be
both helpful and insightful.
As for reading ASD, I know what you mean about the flame wars. First off it
helps to use your kill file if you've got one. If you can block the dozen
or more Chung identities, (and others of his ilk) you'll at least get rid of
most of the religious proselytising which has no place on ASD. I've also
KF'd a couple of others who after reading many of their posts, I realize
their purpose is not to offer information, but to stir up trouble.
Likewise, with further study, you start to learn who actually does have
valuable advice and a supportive attitude. (If you'd like a list of the
ones I've found to be helpful you can email me at bookbug_35 AT yahoo.com.)
Sometimes a post starts out to be informative and often devolves into
arguement. At that point, I usually stop reading.
I hope you can find a way to cope with the fussing, because we really need
the sane, helpful people to counterbalance the troublemakers. Imho, the
group offers an important resource to newbies (I was a newbie last
November), and it's the primary reason I hang around. And occasionally, I
still learn something new.
