Hi, I am new here, so forgive me if I can't find this info. My husband
built my sewing room, and I want him to drop my Bernina 430 into the
sewing area for me. He knows how to drop it down, but I need to know how
to tell him to make the plexiglass insert to cover the top for the
quilting cover. He is VERY OCD and needs EXACT DIRECTIONS ALONG WITH
PICTURES IF POSSIBLE. I am the type that just says, "Okay, just cut it
and make it fit for crying out loud.". But, I have to say, his way always
turns out so well. Thanks, and I am looking forward to reading more on
this site.

Welcome! Can't help with your question, because I bought mine
ready-made. But it seems like you could make a paper pattern and tweak
until it fits. The real issue is how to support the insert. Mine has
a lip around 3 edges that rests on the table opening, beveled a bit so
the fabric slides over without catching. The open end slides around
the machine's free arm, and it's not as long as the machine -there's a
control panel at the lower right front that needs to remain
accessible.
Other options would include legs that rest on the lowered part. Or
some people use tomato paste cans. (Check often for expiration date!)

Moppy, you're very lucky to have such a talented husband! As for the
plexiglass insert, did your machine come with a "travel table" of any
sort? If so you could use that to get the measurements/pattern for the
cut-out portion of your new plexiglass insert. The outer measurements
would, of course, depend on what your new sewing surface is like. Other
than that, Roberta's suggestions are right on the money, especially the
bit about the slightly-beveled edges.
