Congratulations, I think winning a smaller, non-judged show is better
because you know that people just went with their gut feelings. Your
quilt made them feel happy so they voted for it.
Whenever I go to a big show, I vote for whatever quilt made me feel
something warm inside, may have been the colors, or the subject matter,
but whatever, it just reached me somehow.
I'm sometimes disappointed to see what the "real" judges think of as
great at some of the bigger shows. The quilt may have been technically
perfect, but it doesn't do a thing for me.
I went to the Lowell, MA Quilt Festival this past weekend and fell in
love with a large quilt depicting a man and little girl in a greenhouse
full of flowers. It made me remember my dad ( who died when I was 14 )
and how he would always take the time to explain the "whys and hows" of
things to me. Although the quilt was exquisitely made, I loved it
because it reached down into my heart.
