I've just seen an advert for Silk Batting (over here batting is often
called wadding). Never seen this before, and they say that it took a
lot of sourcing.
http://www.thesilkroute.co.uk/products.htm
Has anyone used a silk one? I quite like the idea of doing a
wallhanging and using up the bits of silk I keep hoarding.
This firm (I've used them before for silk fabric but NAYY) are having
a stall at a show I'm going to in the Autumn so I thought I might
order a 36" piece to collect from there (and save postage) and be
temped by their fabric too.
Haven't really thought of a design - perhaps a landscape/seascape(?)
but I have a couple of months to think.

I picked up some quilt bat samples at the Hobbs booth at the MN Quilt Show.
One of these silk....it feels really nice, but haven't tried using it yet. I
would think it would be great!

I haven't used it, Sally; but I have heard that it is absolutely
heavenly to work with.

I haven't bought any because of the price.
However, at the big show here (PIQF) there used to be a silk batting
booth. They had a quilt sandwich set up and you could quilt away on it.
It was quite lovely to quilt through.

The batts at the shop Sally posted are actually at the best price I
have seen on silk batts so far. I believe that at the moment UK37.50
for a 98x106 would come in at about US70 (order page says that
includes VAT). By far the least expensive in all my looking about at
the things. About US7.00 for shipping and it is still less expensive
than the other silk batts I've looked at, and the first one of that
size I have seen. With the 71x98 one coming in at about US45, it
actually makes silk batting for a special quilt or project a viable
possibilty.
And as I recall the goth sewists in the UK think highly of the Silk
Route.
I am keeping this place bookmarked, yes I am!
