Hello! Just last week I had the good fortune to attend
a Ricky Tims Seminar in Richmond, Virginia. The event
ran for several hours on Thursday evening, all day
Friday, and all day Saturday ... about 15 hours of
quilting demonstrations and lectures! Ricky gave most
of the sessions, while Libby Lehman and Alex Anderson
each gave two sessions. Each registered person received
an outstanding syllabus. This is jam packed with
charts, information, and pictures.
Plus, on Friday night Ricky gave a concert. He is a
classically educated musician, and played the piano and
some other instrument that looked like a wooden flute.
There was a good display of their works, and a few
other works. A Richmond Bernina dealer had a 'store'
where I bought on book and four fat quarters. Ricky had
a 'store' selling gorgeous hand dyed fabric, cds,
thread and notions. The owner of Superior Threads, Bob,
attended the Seminar and gave two sessions about
thread. I then received a certificate stating that I am
now a PhD of Threadology! LOL
It was fun to have a mini vacation with quilter
friends, to learn good stuff, and to view beautiful
quilts. The Seminar had about 450 attendees. It was
VERY well organized, with all events starting and
finishing on time. The logistics were also very good.
The event here was nearly $200 for the Ricky Tims
Seminar; hotel and meal costs were on our own. My guild
had a group that registered together, saving each
person $40. The cost was well worth it. I receive NO
compensation for this message ... I am posting in case
some of you are considering attending a Seminar.
All for now, PAT in Virginia

Not a bad deal for the organizers. Wow!
Glad you had fun, the seminars do look very interesting. It was nice to
hear about it from someone who has actually been.

Good for you! It was so nice to attend a quilting
'class' and not have to schlepp stuff! I just had a pen
and pencil. Plus a camera, and water of course.
Actually, I did not need the water. RTS supplied water
& soft drinks for the breaks, plus coffee in morning. I
wish I'd had a heavier sweater, or a small fleece
blanket though. The Convention Center was too chilly.

For some reason I didn't receive Pat's original post, but was able to read
it in someone's reply. Thank you so much for posting your experience Pat.
I am the coordinator for Ricky Tims Super Seminar in January of 2008. It's
been a joy to work with his partner & his office staff. We are very excited
that he is coming. He will be in Livermore, CA. We found out about it from
another member in our Guild who flew to Florida to see him & came back
raving about it. We've sold about 1/3 of the available tickets so far & I'm
confident that we will sell out - the facility we will be in only holds 575
people & we're still 6 months away!
I write something up every month for our newsletter - do you mind if I cut &
paste your comments? Or, if you would like to email me at my email addy
with anything else you think might capture the interest of anyone who is
hesitating, I'd sure appreciate it.
