Time for my twice-yearly trip to Popeye's Chicken with side trips to quilt
shops. I'm headed out for the all-day venture on Tuesday, July 1.

Suggestions?

I already visit Meissner's, Tayo's Torrie's Sew and Vac (used to be
Paschane's), Beverly's in Rocklin and Fair Oaks, the big Hancock's on El
Camino, and Quilter's Corner in the business park off 50 & Bradshaw.

Lat year Kathy recommended JR Flamingo and Bearpaws and Hollyhocks -- those
two are definites this time.

I haven't been to any along Route 50 or into Folsom. I'll make a second
trip this year in November to do that.

Cabin Fever in Auburn is a separate trip with friends. We also go to
Donna's Stitchery and Quilter's haven at Truckee.

Darn, I have to work that day! Enjoy your trip, and bring some lung
protection, because the smoke may not have cleared by then. Are you guys
suffering up there as much as we are here?

You guys really have to be in a bad way with smoke there.
We have had days of haze from the smoke even this far.
I sure hope they get a handle on the fires soon.

Yuck on the smoke! I had originally planned the trip for Friday the 27th,
but the smoke was so bad. I do like to see the scenery when I drive over!

For the first time in 6 years since they devised the smog alert designations
for Reno, they declared a Level 2 alert the other day. Level 1 is bad;
Level 2 is worse. I'm not getting ash on my car like I have during past
California fires, but I wonder what's going into my lungs. I have not done
my walk/jogs in the park for the past week. (I'm an overweight ol' lady --
I can't be out there runnin' in this stuff!!) When the view of the
mountains from my dining room window disappears, I know it is bad. Today we
have a bluish haze instead of a gray-white haze. I even saw sunshine very
early this morning. Reminds me of a Ray Bradbury short story "All Summer in
a Day."

Your smoke in the Sacramento area is probably worse than ours since you are
closer to the fires. It's really bad around the mountain at my school.
It's almost in California near the Plumas National Forest.

Just had a thought on shops. A couple of weeks ago a girlfriend and I
stopped at one in Newcastle. Not a huge selection of quilting fabric, but
lots of vintage trims and buttons, if you're in to that. It's the Tin
Thimble, 595 Taylor Road, 916-663-2134.

The smoke is better today -- looks like about 4 mile visability, instead of
the 1 mile we had yesterday. Still have the burning eyes, sinus headache,
and lung congestion we've had all week. Yuck.
