I['m working on a Hug quilt for our pastor's wife who's battling cancer. One
of the people who wants to contribute has sent me her signatures as an .hpd
file. Can anyone help me get this into a language my computer can
understand? [I'm guessing this is proprietary for Hewlett Packard?]

I don't know anything about .hpd files so I googled it!
http://filext.com/file-extension/HPD At the very bottom of this page
is some google info about opening this sort of file if it
helps.....seems to be a system related to linux and is their form of
pdf files. You could also ask the person to convert for you into
something that you can use???? jennellh

not sure where you got the idea it's a linux thing from, the word linux
isn't mentioned on that page, it seems to be either "hotdocs pdf
document", apparently used by the legal profession. Or as the OP
suggested something from HP, or rather implausibly something related to
Harry Potter! Linux users tend to be pretty good at making sure
something is in a format someone else can understand, they are generally
at the top end of computer literacy and aware that other people probably
won't be using linux and even if they are, not necessarily the same
programs, conversion functions are often built in as well. I think the
only option is to get back to the original person and ask her to send it
in a format you can use.

apparently they are using this program called HDL designer.
http://www.mentor.com/products/fpga_pld/hdl_design/hdl_designer_series/ I guess you need to have it to open that kind of file. I don't have
that, but have a few options I could try, so if you want I'll be happy
to try opening it for you if you email it to me, converting it to a more
common format. Otherwise like someone said you'll have to have them send
it to you again in a more common format.

just went and had a look/see that (always checking stuff
bout puters) and you'd think that you can save files on that
program in various formats, including the usual .jpg .
maybe when he/she saved it they didnt change the drop down
menu to the right file type.
seems easy enough to fix that by resaving it with the file
type change. then resend it to Kim.
cant get my head around that program and its uses, surely
not mainstream but geared for specific industrys/people.
must of just been a wee ooops when they missed the file type
change on saving.
should then be easily fixed.
good luck,
jeanne
