Check the label on the spool/cone. It should have a needle size and
show/hide quoted text
recommends using a topstitching needle. Tut is a heavier thread,
definitely not for piecing, but great for quilting and decorative use.
You may need to slightly loosen your tension too.

The Aurifil I use most of the time is 50 wt. so is fairly fine. But
Aurifil does make other sizes and types of thread. I know they have a
wool thread and "bigger" threads too. The key is the color of the
