She's going to be at our guild next month and I've signed up for the
workshop. Has anyone taken her "Curves without Fuss" workshop?
I ask because after months of asking our workshop coordinator for the
supply list she told me last night that we need a sewing machine and 2
colors of fabric. I find this a little lacking as a supply list.
Sewing machine? Well, I sort of guessed that. But do I just need a
1/4" foot? A regular zig zag presser foot? Something else? What
about thread? Will the silver gray that is in my machine right now
for piecing be okay, or do I need thread to match my fabrics? Since I
don't intend to buy anything new for this workshop, if I need matching
thread, that will affect my fabric choices.
And speaking of fabric, how much of 2 colors? A fat quarter? 5
yards? Something in between?
Do I need rotary cutter and mat and ruler? Or are we using templates,
so I need to bring scissors and a marking pencil?
Grrr! I know, I know, I should just email the instructor myself and
get the supply list and distribute it. But, I'm particularly grumpy
right now and don't feel I should have to do someone else's job.
I should probably just volunteer to be a guild officer next year, but
with my crazy work situation right now, I just don't feel like
devoting the time and energy to this. (I have a feeling that trying to
cut down on some of the nonsense that happens at meetings right now
just will not go over well or make me popular--though things would run
a lot more smoothly.) I just want to be able to go to meetings and
workshops when I have time, relax, and enjoy myself.

but it does a good job of reflecting just one more of life's little
annoyances.
Yes. Email the instructor; then go indulge in some good chocolate. Or

Quick and easy to find.
Saying something to the board would not be unreasonable. It doesn't
have to be rude but perhaps a short note to the guild president or
programs chair or whomever is in a position to actually do something
like:
"I am signed up for the workshop with Toby and perhaps it's just me, but
I'm having a really hard time with the supply list. I was simply told
"x" and I'm sure I must be missing something. Do you think there's a
way that we could get a more formal supply list from our teachers and
distribute it to members who are registered for class? Perhaps when we
register we could include a self addressed stamped envelope and the
workshop person could mail it to us?"
No "she's a crappy workshop person" - which may be entirely true. No
volunteering for something you don't have time to do. Just simply
addressing a problem that affects not only you but the teacher - if
people don't know what to expect they don't sign up! And helping to
work towards a simple solution.

That was the first thing I tried. Unfortunately the website doesn't
provide any supply lists that I can find. Just a photo of a quilt
made using the technique. Looks great, but still doesn't do much to
help me decide what I need to bring to the class.
Tried the contact us link from the website, but I can't tell if my
email went through or not.
I've come this/close to quitting this guild several times because of
how disorganized everything is. But there are some very nice people,
so I've hesitated. This may actually be the last straw for me.

Dear Maureen,
Why would anyone want to take a 'workshop' on "Curves Without Fuss" ?
Come on over---I'll feed you for a few days and I guarantee you won't have
to work about your 'lack of curves'.
