Martha Pullen class information suggests you always ship your machine rather
than taking it as luggage if you fly. They also suggest you make sure the
machine is covered under your homeowner's insurance and call your insurance
agent to see if you need a special rider on your policy to cover it in
transit. It will be too heavy to put in overhead stowage (Would you want to
be sitting under that if the plane hits turbulence and things start to fall
out of overhead luggage compartments?) and probably too large for carry on
to fit under the seat. I've seen how baggage is handled; I'd have it
insured, packed and shipped if it was my machine. Also remember that if
she's bringing along her sewing equipment that cutters, scissors, other
sharp pointy things and some aerosols (at security's discretion) won't make
it through security if it's in carry on.
