Good evening everyone.
Ok, brainwaves are getting more frequent. I keep getting ideas. I am
toying with an idea for a baby quilt and I have come up with Sunbonnet
Sue. I know, nothing really earthshattering there. My idea basically
is to enlarge a Sunbonnet Sue pattern that I like to about 400% and
use it to make a single (very) large Sue on the center of a baby/crib
quilt, perhaps using smaller Sues in the border. I have spent the last
few days searching for fabrics I like and so far I've found several.
However,if I reduce all the fabrics I've found to the 5 I like best, I
find that I have flannels and cottons together.
Is there anything wrong with combining flannels and cottons in the
same quilt?
Anything special I should look out for?
Any other words of wisdom/warning that I should heed?

Preshrink the flannel *at least* three times with hot water/hot dryer,
because it *will* shrink more than regular quilting cotton.
Regular quilting cotton will be "crisper" and flannel will be
...uh..."schmooshier" when you try to sew them together. Starching the
flannel heavily before cutting it out (and washing the quilt after of
course!) may help with this.
I think combining the textures would be great in a baby quilt!

Nicely done, Pam. You covered the question very well! I did wonder how
Claudia might translate schmooshier en espanol. She'll find a way. Polly

Yeah, I was trying to figure out how to describe how flannel is the opposite
of "crisp" and "schmooshy" was the only word I could think of! LOL!

Thanks Pam
I'll certainly remember to wash and dry the flannel on hot!
I love the word "schmooshy"!
Will not even attempt to change that into Spanish; if they want to use
it, they'll have to use it as is!!!
Thanks
Claudia
